Elite Landscaping Supply U13 Sting Take Second Place
Elite
Landscaping Supply Saugeen Shores U13 Senior PWSA Fastball Team took to the
diamond in Port Perry this past long weekend for the first ball tournament of
the year.
The girls were excited to face some well known competition, but most excited to battle teams from Quebec for the first time. The team had late night cheer practice to learn cheers in French to impress (or distract) the competition! Over the three day tournament, the team managed to earn a birth in the finals with a perfect 5-0 record. The team battled hard, but could not cash in on runners on the bases and fell to the Lynx from Quebec 7-4 in the final. Throughout the tournament, the Sting out scored the opponents 61 to 14. Our pitching trio of Aadi Kidd, Avery Sachs and Marisa Barfoot impressed the crowds with their speed and consistency on the mound. The girls combined to strike out 51 batters and only surrendered 17 hits. The low hit count can also be attributed to stellar defensive plays. Lexi Gruberbauer and Lundyn Carr were a force to be reckoned with on the right side of the diamond, not letting any balls get past. Addison Kuntz patrolled centre field like a boss and threw girls out at second who thought they could turn a single into a double. Our catcher crew of Alison Thede, Charlotte Fitzsimmons and Macy Reid made sure to squeeze those third strikes and intimidated runners on the base path, even catching a few runners stealing. 61 runs scored meant that the bats were not just hot, they were blazing hot! All the girls racked up hits this weekend. This is the first time this team has managed to accomplish this feat. The hitting parade was lead by Avery with 7 hits and Blaire Holtby, Silk Watson and Charlotte with 6 hits each. This weekend saw some huge hits, with Avery hitting a home run and a triple, Lundyn, Macy and Julia Foster all hitting triples and eight different players hitting doubles. It was a successful first tournament for the Sting. Second overall in a nine team tournament is an amazing feat! This team had not yet practiced with everyone in attendance prior to the tournament. There were so many great plays, it is hard to recap everything in one article! The coaches are very excited to see what this team can accomplish this season! Go Sting!
