BATTLE AT THE BEACH PWSA TOURNAMENT Rules U11
June 2-4, 2023
1. Softball Canada rules: The softball Canada Rules shall be used in all Divisions except where they are amended, deleted or added to by the Operationg rules of the SSMBA.
2. Teams must check in 1 hour before their first game and be ready to play 20 minutes before a scheduled game time.
3. Home team will be a coin toss which will be called by the team travelling the furthest distance. This will be overseen by the tournament volunteer.
4. The home team will be the official scorekeeper. Both teams must agree on the final score and sign the score sheet at the end of the game.
5. The official start time will be confirmed by the home plate umpire at the time of the first pitch. The home team will document the start time on the score sheet.
6. There will be no infield practice on the diamonds in fair territory.
7. Round Robin game length will be a regulation seven innings with the following exception.
No new inning will start after 1 hour and 30 minutes. Home team will not bat if ahead after the time limit expires. No new inning may be started after the time limit. Should there be a tie game then each team is awarded 1point. Mercy rule is in affect. U11 games will have a 5 run max per inning,except the 7th inning or the last inning called by the umpires will be open.
8.A player cannot play the same position more than three(3)innings per game
The playing time will be reset after six(6) innings
9. Two points will be awarded for a win and one point for a tie.
10. Playoff/Championship game length will be a regulation seven innings. Mercy rule will apply. If tied at completion of game, the international tie breaker rule will apply.
8th inning- last out of previous inning goes to second base. The batting order continues in rotation. This will continue until a winner is declared.
11.Breaking a tie
(1) Win Loss Record
(2) Winner of games between the tied teams. NOTE: In order to use this criteria, all
subject tied teams must have played each other and one team must have defeated
all the teams they are tied with to be ranked higher. The remaining teams then
revert to (1) and move on.
(3) Difference plus or minus of total runs scored with the limit of seven (7) plus
or minus per game. Full innings only may be used.
(4) Least runs allowed.
(5) Most runs scored.
12. Mercy Rule
15 runs or more at the end of 3 innings (21/2 if home team)or any inning thereafter or
If ahead by 10 runs at the end of 5 innings or (41/2 if home team) or any inning thereafter, the game will be terminated.
If the home team leads after the top half of any such inning, the game shall be considered a mercy and the home team will not bat.
R4.05 U11 if any team is ahead by twenty five (25) or more runs after any complete inning the game will be terminated.
13 .BATTING
All players must bat and unlimited defensive substitutions will be allowed. A pitcher and a catcher may play only three (3) innings per game in each of those poisitions. For interpretation purposes of this rule, an inning is defined as one pitch.
14. Tie breakers and the ranking of teams after the round robin games will be determined in the following order.
A) Winner of games between tied teams
B) Difference plus or minus of total runs scored with the limit of seven (7) plus or minus per game. Full innings only may be used.
C) Least runs allowed
D) Most runs scored
E) Coin toss
15. Protests will only be allowed if there is a discrepency in a rule interpretation by the umpire.
16..,Stealing is allowed in the following conditions; A runner who has reached third(3rd)base MAY NOT ADVANCE home on a wild pitch or passed ball and CANNOT steal home during or after a pitch to the batter.Any runner on base cannot score unless the ball is put into play by the batter, or if walked home. Once the ball is put ito play by the batter, any and all runers can advance at their own risk.
17.No metal cleats are allowed
18. Runners may leave the base when the ball leaves the pitchers hand.
19. Dropped 3rd strike rule is not in affect.
